All of our operations run off of community generosity, or “dana.” As the most fundamental act of letting go, generosity is a central feature of the Buddha’s teaching. It’s said that the Buddha typically taught generosity before even teaching people how to meditate. He shared that an act of giving brings immediate relief from suffering, saying “Generosity brings happiness at every stage of its expression. We experience joy in the thought of giving, the act of giving, and in the memory of having given.”
In the Buddhist tradition, the teachings are considered so immeasurably precious that they can’t be bought or sold. For more than 2,600 years, Buddhist teachers and communities have sustained one another through the practice of dāna, a Pali word that translates as “generosity.” Through this simple but profound practice, the Dharma has remained open to all and has continued to be passed down through the ages.
The Burlington Dharma Collective only exists because of the generosity of people who have been impacted by the Dharma. Thank you for helping us keep the Dharma, and the awakening practice of generosity, alive.
And, there are so many ways to be generous that aren’t monetary. If you do have the financial resources to give freely, we thank you. Your contributions help the collective continue to exist. We use the money to reserve space for our gatherings, pay for supplies, compensate teachers, and as our budget and means grow, compensate our organizers.
We offer deep gratitude to the Peace and Justice Center for servings as our 501c3 fiscal sponsor.
